The 2020 Selection Process
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NYSGA executive committee has made the unprecedented decision to cancel sectional qualifying for all 2020 NYSGA championships. The following selection process has been adopted for the 2020 NYS Boys' 18U Junior Amateur Championship:
- Exemptions: The NYSGA has expanded the automatic exemption categories and will consider special exemptions for players who submit their resume (click here for a template resume) to Matt Whaley (matt@nysga.org) by July 8, 2020.
- USGA Handicap Index: At least 20 players players will be selected by the low USGA Handicap Index of non-exempt players as of the entry close date. The NYSGA will review each player's score history to ensure that it is up-to-date and accurate.
- Registration: All players must register for the championship before they will be considered for entry. No player will be charged until their entry is approved.
The NYSGA plans to reinstate sectional qualifying for all championships in 2021 if conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic permit.
